The hidden Rome, from A to Z

Secret Rome

Do you remember the hidden Rome, Secret Rome? It was the manifestation promoted by  the Rome Municipality to makes people rediscovering the Ancient Rome’s wonderful. We’ve spoken about it this summer. Now we want to talk about it again: as a matter of fact the success of the first manifestation had persuaded the Rome Municipality to repeat it.

Rome from A to Z is the new project lasting till the end of December. If the previous hidden Rome, secret Rome has offered to his visitors 137 different tours, the new one will be articulated in 256 tours on 20 different archeological sites.

Till the end of December 2010 everyone will be allowed to lose himself in the middle of the Rome captivation and mistery. Secret Rome from A to Z will open to everyone the  Auditorium di Mecenate, the Insula Romana sotto Palazzo Specchi, the Mitreo dell’ara Massima di Ercole, the Necropoli Ostiense, the Trofei di Mario e Porta Magica and a lot of other secret places. Coppedè district: a hidden eclectic artwork in Rome

When someone says that a life is not enough to visit Rome, they refers to the big number of artworks that populate the Eternal City, not only in the ancient districts but also in the newest parts of it. Fantastic monuments and architectural works live in gone unheeded by tourists and sometimes also by tourist’s guides city’s areas. One of these wonders is the Coppedè District.

This distict, set up by 18 palaces and 27 smaller buildings, has the same name of the architect who received this commission in the 1915 form the “Società Anonima Edilizia Moderna”, a property of the financer Cerruti. This eclectic artwork, built in the Coppedè’s way, takes place in Via Doria, between the Parioli, Salario and Trieste districts. (more…)

Using Google Earth you can “visit” the ancient Rome of 320 AD, making a 1700 years leap back in time.

This service, maybe still not very known, offers the opportunity to explore the three-dimensional maps of Rome and admire the reconstruction of the main monuments and buildings: the Colosseum, Roman Forum, the Arch of Constantine, the Laudus Magnus and much more! (more…)

Photos of the snow in Rome

On February 12 2010 Rome wakened up under the snow, leaving residents and tourists to live a breathtaking experience.

A really special event, as Rome under the snow is to say one of the most wonderful sights. It is also a rare phenomenon, considering that the last snowfall comparable to the latest one, dates back to 1986, well 24 years ago!

Despite the hardships on the viability of the city streets, all the lucky ones who were able to admire an unusual Rome blanketed in snow, in fact, have shot dozens of photographs to capture the spectacle.
