The Bioparco of Rome blows one hundred birth candle (2° Part)

Here’s the second part of the activities calendar of Bioparco’s centenary birthday.
April: Opening of the area stretch to cerocebi, monkey species that risks the extinction.
June: 2nd June – “100 painter to 100 years” – paint contest where professional artists will portray the animals of the zoo of Rome. In all June month, the area stretch dedicate at Tamarini and Ustilì (the smallest pygmy in the world, tall about thirty centimeter and weights about 130 g) will be opened.
September: 25 September – “Bioparco Olympic” – sport event dedicate to children (5-13 years old; for more informations you can visit the Bioparco’s web site). (more…)
The Bioparco of Rome blows one hundred birth candle (1° Part)

Rome celebretes Bioparco’s 100° birthday with a rich events program. The Bioparco, the zoo of Rome, was inaugurated the 5 January 1911 and the first director was the German zoologist Knottenerus-Meyer. During its long history, the Bioparco of Rome has given hospitality to some rare species like Asian elephant and Eritrean Lion. In this last case the zoo of Rome accommodated the last specimen before that these lions to became extinct.
During these one-hundred years the zoo of Rome has also past some unhappy moments, and one time it has risked the closedown, but at nowadays the Bioparco is considerate in the field study like one of the best structure at international level. This is been possible overall thanks to the special attention for protection and conservation of the animals, and in general of the biodiversity.
And so Rome has decided of celebrate the Bioparco’s birthday with a series of activities and events that to go on all 2011. Below you can check the first part of activities calendar. (more…)
