Leonardo Da Vinci in Rome: genius on display in Fiumicino airport

Leonardo Da Vinci exibition in RomeLeonardo Da Vinci on display in Rome is a good chance to see the creations, the machines and the dreams of a genius, an inventor who surprises the whole world with his works and ideas, even if he died almost five hundred years ago.

The exhibition Il genio di Leonardo (“The genius of Leonardo”, set in terminal 1 of Fiumicino airport from now to April 2012) shows the flying machines created by the Florentine inventor: this works derive directly from Leonardo’s projects and they are collected in the same place for the first time.

Near flying machines as ornithopter (the “ancestor” of modern helicopter), the glider and the flying machines with pedals (a sort of bike with wings), this exhibition that Rome dedicates to Leonardo Da Vinci shows a self-portrait found in Basilicata (an Italian region) in 2009: in this painting the Florentine genius paints himself with a long and white beard, a serious look, a hat with a feather and two unexpected blue eyes.

The Capitoline Museums: Leonardo and Michelangelo Exhibition

From October 27th 2011 until February 19th 2012 in the spaces of the Capitoline Museums of Rome a extraordinary exhibition “Leonardo e Michelangelo. Capolavori della grafica e studi romani” (Leonardo and Michelangelo. Design masterpiece and roman studies), that is a exhibition which puts in comparison two genius of the Italian Renaissance.

The Leonardo and Michelangelo exhibition is divided in mirrors area, just about underline the hostile relationship there was between them. So the Leonardo da Vinci’s scientific studies are opposed to incredible Michelangelo’s painting, the Leonardo personal notes and his roman works are opposed to Michelangelo’s roman project like Sistina’s Chapel. Gunther von Hagens‘ Exhibition in Rome

In this period until February 12sn 2012, in the Officine Farneto spaces there is one of most discussed exhibition of Rome, that is the Gunther von Hagens’ Body Worlds, the works of Doctor Death. This the exhibition doesn’t suits with who is faint-of-heart.

But, Who is Gunther von Hagens, and why he has this bad name? Von Hagens is a German anthropologist, he invented the Plastination technique, that is the modern taxidermy technique which it counts the synthetic compound polymer as a replacement for organic fluid. This technique allows the separation of internal body parts (bones, muscles, organs) in addition to blocks of decomposition.

So this exhibition of Rome shows 200 organs and organ sections more 20 bodies in positions that refers to important masterpiece or positions that wants come as a shock. So the skull section look like a butterfly, a relax woman holds the child on her lap and a man is hanging up his skin.

Palazzo delle Esposizioni – La Grande pittura sovietica

From October 11th 2011 to January 8th 2012 in the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome will be the “Grande pittura sovietica” (Soviet Painting) a exhibition about the Russian masterworks of 1920 – 1970 period.

Hence the exhibition is a retrospective of the most important cultural and art Russian, that is the period immediately after the October Revolution. This period is also known like Socialist Realism, a ideological stream which has embrace every artistic expression and not only the painting. The Socialist Realism has been a phenomena one of kind, because suchlike things never happened before and never came after.

In fact the Socialist Realism works were serving one’s country, the masterworks must moved a revealing message or like Maksim Gor’kij’s explain “The masterworks must have a realistic shape and a Socialist content”. The party used the masterworks to propagandize and content were always the same Class struggle, the working class and the daily life of Russian people.

From April 12nd to September 18th there is an exhibition in Rome focused on Nerone.
The exhibition about him is located in different places which are familiar places to controversial imperator, that is: Curia Iulia, Romolo Temple, Nerone’s Crypt, Palatino Museum and Colosseum. The exhibition wants to revisit the Nerone image, also because there have been the latest archeological discoveries which had cleared Nerone position about the burning of Rome in 64 Ad.

Most of the modern historians agree on the origin of tyrant image of Nerone which was created by aristocrats. This happened because Neorne pursued a policy in behalf of people.

New York Shots exposition by Howard Schatz in Rome

The New York Shots exposition, photographic project by Howard Schatz, will take place in Rome until the first of May at the Macro, Museo d’Arte contemporanea.
The vivid shots chosen by the photographer dip us into a New York underground shown by the seamed body of boxe athletes , in the chiaroscuro market by the ring lights and the lamps of the outskirts gyms. Boxeurs drawn in more or less natural poses between the simulation and the reality of a physical extreme effort.

By the pictures gathered in the New York Shots exposition, Schatz face again the expressivity of the human body which, through the training, reach the shapes harmony without, nonetheless, hiding the deformities calling back to the rough reality.

The exposition inauguration will see the presence of some of the gratest boxe world champions: Vinny Maddalone, Domenico Spada, Daniele Petrucci, Andrea di Luisa, Manuel Ernesti, and many others athletes such as: Nino Benvenuti, Francesco Damiani, Gianfranco Rosi, Maurizio Stecca, Sumbu Kalambay, Gianluca e Silvio Branco.

A taste of New York in Rome, with this exposition that all the photography passionate don’t have to miss to spot the Howard Schatz’ shots, in the Hall of Macro until the first of May. A photographer that made out of the human body a religion and out of the picture a poetry.

L’imprevedibile leggerezza della materia on display in Rome

From April 13 the Museum of Casina delle Civette will host ” L’imprevedibile leggerezza della materia “, an exhibition dedicated to the art of cast iron between the nineteenth and twentieth century both in urban and domestic.

It was in this period are in fact the first iron works in many different forms and representations: street lights, decorative masks and statues, vases and other objects from the railings and the Foundation’s collection Blacks – Italian Museum of Iron.

In the exhibition ” L’imprevedibile leggerezza della materia ” you will have the chance to see 30 works in cast iron, a collection of vintage postcards and decorative objects for inside the house or garden. Boards of education that will illustrate the process of cast iron will also be installed.

Caravaggio again in art exhibition at Rome

During the last year, for the IV centenary of Caravaggio’s death (1571-1610) Rome was the protagonist of the biggest art exhibition dedicate at this artist, but after the sensational discovers pertain to Lombard painter, the celebration will continue the exhibition in his honour.

So, the 11th February will start in Rome the art exhibition “Vita dal vero” of Michelangelo Merisi. This art exhibition will shine a light on the time when Caravaggio lived in Rome (1595/96 – 1606). The first big news is this, that is the forward shifting of 5 years of the Caravaggio’arrived date at Rome, and so the artist arrived in 1956 and not in the 1592 like everyone has believed. The world upside down: Chagall exhibit in Rome

Continues until March 27 at the Ara Pacis, the exhibition created for the twenty-five years after the death of the artist Marc Chagall The world upside down.”

In the lower room of the museum you will find 138 works, some of them unpublished, from diverse museums in the world: paintings, sketches, illustrations. Among the most important you will find: The man with an upside-down head, Sled on the snow, Poems, 10th illustration, Resurrection, At the easel.

Softheart: exhibition of Massimo Sansavini in Rome

Until January 18, 2011, in Rome, you can visit the extraordinary exhibition of Massimo Sansavini “Softheart”.
The installation, sponsored by the Department for Culture and Communication in Rome in partnership with Capital Zètema Culture Project, is about a theme felt from us all: love.

Love understood as a game, but also as a cosmic engine and absolute good.
The exhibition “Softheart”is an interactive experience that transports visitors into carnival colors pop, in which each work is the interpretation and representation of the smallest part of speech of love, depicted in a wonderful way thanks to the skillful creativity and imagination of the artist.
A journey that leads to the discovery of the infinite paths of the heart and the many forms of passion between a succession of departures and returns, different every time and lived at any time without obligation of course.

For those not familiar, Massimo Sansavini is not new to this issue and in recent years has created many works, from Passion to Love, that testify his skills and abilities to express themselves in this particular artistic theme. (more…)
