Trevi Fountain ticket in 2026: €2 entry, rules and visiting hours

Starting February 2, 2026, Trevi Fountain has introduced a €2 ticket for close-up access to the inner perimeter by the water and steps, the spot where visitors usually line up for photos and the classic coin toss. The key point is simple: the piazza remains free, and you can still admire the fountain from the standard viewpoints without paying.

Price and exemptions

The ticket costs €2 and applies only to the restricted close-up area. Access remains free for Rome and Metropolitan City residents (with ID), children under 6, people with disabilities and their carers, and licensed tour guides. Some official communications also mention free entry for MIC Card holders.

Hours and how it works

Ticketed access runs during set time windows. Official and press reports commonly indicate Mon & Fri from 11:30 am to 10:00 pm, and other days from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, with last entry in the evening. Entry is managed and limited, with a dedicated visitor flow designed to make the experience calmer and safer near the basin.

How to buy Trevi Fountain tickets

The €2 ticket can be purchased online through the official channels (the dedicated website is fontanaditrevi.roma.it), or in person at Tourist Infopoints and Civic Museums ticket offices, as well as at the entrance to the controlled area. Keep in mind that on-site payments are card only, while Civic Museums/Infopoints and authorized outlets may also accept cash.

Why the city is doing it

The measure is framed as a way to tackle overcrowding while keeping the site public in spirit: pay only if you want the “front-row” spot, while the fountain remains freely visible to everyone from the piazza.
